iPhone 15 to Reportedly Support Both MagSafe and Qi2 Wireless Fast Charging Protocols
We are eagerly awaiting the release of the iPhone 15 series, and as the launch date approaches, rumors about the upcoming features and designs are flooding the internet. One of the most recent rumors suggests that Apple is set to revolutionize fast charging by breaking away from the 15W limitation tied to its proprietary MagSafe wireless charging protocol.

According to a reliable source in the charger industry, ChargerLab, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will support both the Qi2 and MagSafe wireless charging protocols, providing users with the ability to enjoy 15W wireless charging speeds.
Currently, Apple offers two wireless charging speeds for its iPhones: 7.5W and 15W. The latter is exclusive to chargers that integrate the MagSafe charging protocol, while the former is available for third-party wireless chargers.
However, ChargerLab's report reveals that Apple is about to embrace a significant change. The company will reportedly support two charging protocols, namely MagSafe and Qi2. The Qi2 protocol, developed by Apple itself, offers a fast charging speed of 15W and is not limited to MagSafe chargers. This means that third-party chargers supporting Qi2 will be able to deliver up to 15W charging speeds, which is a groundbreaking development for non-MagSafe chargers.
According to ChargerLab's information sourced from the supply chain, the cost of the MagSafe charging module is around $16, which contributes to the higher price of MagSafe-supported chargers compared to third-party options. In contrast, the new Qi2 module costs only about one-third of the price of MagSafe and does not require certification from Apple's Made for iPhone (MFI) program.
While Apple has not officially disclosed the charging speeds for the Qi2 protocol, ChargerLab believes that the charging speed will gradually increase in the future.
